The $600 billion pledge first surfaced during a White House dinner with technology executives in September. Mark Zuckerberg mentioned the figure at the event, and it drew further attention after a private exchange with President Trump was caught on a live microphone. During that moment, Zuckerberg admitted he was unsure what number the president expected him to announce.
Meta also highlighted the job opportunities created through its data center operations. Since 2010, the company says these centers have provided over 30,000 skilled trade jobs and 5,000 operational positions. Meta reports that it is currently investing more than $20 billion with US subcontractors.
Looking Ahead to “Superintelligence”
The idea of “superintelligence”, where AI could surpass human cognitive abilities, has been mentioned in previous Meta announcements. The concept has drawn concern from some industry experts, who want strong safety measures in place before further development.
Meta is positioning its AI glasses as a central part of this future. Zuckerberg suggested earlier this year that those without such devices could face a noticeable cognitive disadvantage in the years to come.
