Authorities suspended traffic on Saturday after a sudden landslide blocked the Zhob Dera Ismail Khan Highway near the Daraband area of Sherani district, officials said.

Heavy rainfall over the Suleman Mountain Range in preceding days triggered massive rock and mudslides that sent boulders and debris onto the roadway, an official said.

The collapse left the highway impassable and halted travel between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger coaches, buses and loaded trucks, remained stranded on both sides of the blockage. Local officials closed the road to ensure public safety until crews clear the debris and remove the boulders.

Teams from the National Highway Authority, the Sherani district administration and local police reached the site and launched clearance operations, using heavy machinery to reopen lanes and restore safe passage, authorities added.

The Sherani administration advised motorists to avoid the Quetta Zhob Dera Ismail Khan Highway until officials officially reopen the route, and urged travelers to follow updates from road authorities for diversions and safety information.
