Karachi Once Again Faces a Severe Water ShortageKarachi Once Again Faces a Severe Water Shortage
Karachi’s water shortage worsened on Friday as repeated electricity outages by K-Electric continued to disrupt pumping operations across the city.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation said a major power breakdown hit the K-3 pumping station late Thursday night, and the fault remained unresolved.
The spokesperson said the same station suffered a major outage earlier in the week, with electricity restored only after a 41-hour delay. Just hours after power returned, another cable fault shut the station down again.
The station had already been temporarily closed on Monday for technical repairs, but the issues persisted. KWSC reported an estimated loss of 335 million gallons of water because of the breakdowns.
The shortages have severely affected neighborhoods including North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, Scheme 33, several blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, Saddar, and Clifton.
