In 2023, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny made the surprising decision to skip a U.S. mainland tour for his new album, choosing instead to perform exclusively in his homeland. According to Jorge Perez, a tourism official who manages the Coliseo in San Juan, producers revealed the plan: the first nine concerts would be reserved only for Puerto Rico residents, while international fans would have to travel to the island for later shows.
Perez recalls being stunned by the idea, calling it “mind blowing,” as Bad Bunny could have easily sold out venues in cities like Las Vegas. Instead, the artist deliberately rooted the tour in Puerto Rico, showcasing pride in his origins while boosting the island’s cultural and tourism spotlight. The move turned into a massive success, exceeding expectations for both fans and organizers.
