Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday inaugurated Faisalabad’s first-ever electro bus service, marking what officials described as a milestone in the city’s public transport system.

According to the Punjab Transport Department, Faisalabad will receive a total of 150 electro buses, with 30 buses beginning operations in the first phase. These buses will initially run on two major routes: a 22-kilometre track from Yousaf Town to Sagle City and an 18-kilometre route from University Roundabout to Sadhar.

Officials said the new service is expected to accommodate more than 24,000 passengers daily, offering a modern and eco-friendly alternative to older, polluting transport options.

The electro buses come equipped with facilities such as Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, CCTV cameras and designated compartments for women. Special seating has also been arranged for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers. The fare has been set at Rs.20 to keep the service affordable for the general public.

Dedicated charging stations have already been established across the city to ensure uninterrupted operations. Authorities added that the project reflects the government’s broader efforts to modernize urban mobility while reducing environmental pollution.

With the launch of the electro bus service, Faisalabad has joined the list of Pakistani cities transitioning to sustainable transport solutions.
