The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal SIM activations, conducting multiple raids on franchisees involved in issuing SIMs through unauthorized biometric methods.
According to PTA, its Lahore Zonal Office, working jointly with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, carried out operations in Shahkot in Nankana Sahib, Haveli Lakha in Okara, and Yazman in Bahawalpur.
The action was taken after PTA formally lodged complaints over fraudulent SIM activations through the sales channel.
During the raids, officials seized a large number of suspicious SIMs along with scanners and equipment used to bypass biometric verification rules. NCCIA took custody of all recovered items as evidence.
One franchise customer service representative was arrested in the Shahkot and Haveli Lakha raids, while three people, including the franchise owner and supervisor, were detained during the Yazman operation. FIRs have been registered, and NCCIA has begun further investigation.
PTA said the enforcement drive reflects its determination to stop violations of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System by franchisees trying to activate SIMs illegally.
The authority urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious or unauthorised issuance of SIMs.
