Vine, the platform that helped popularize six-second looping videos more than a decade ago, has been revived under a new name: diVine. The reboot is supported by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, while the project is being led by Evan Henshaw-Plath, known online as Rabble, who previously worked at Twitter.

Restoring a Lost Platform

Vine launched in 2012 and shut down in 2017, but a volunteer preservation group called the Archive Team backed up a large portion of its videos before the platform went dark. TechCrunch reports that diVine now gives users access to more than 100,000 of those archived clips.

Rabble said he wanted to create something that captured the spirit of an earlier internet era. He described diVine as an effort to bring back a time when users could control their feeds, choose who to follow, and know that each clip was recorded by a real person. He added that the platform includes a significant share of Vine’s most popular videos, although not every clip could be recovered. Vine creators still hold the copyright to their original work.

A Focus on Authenticity

diVine also places heavy emphasis on real content. The platform flags and suspends posts created with AI, according to TechCrunch. Rabble explained that the project reflects a broader nostalgia for early Web 2.0 spaces years defined by blogging, podcasting, and community-driven networks rather than algorithm-shaped feeds. He said people may engage with AI tools, but many still want more control over their online experiences.

On its website, diVine invites users to rediscover short-form videos created by real people in six-second loops. The app is available on iOS and Android through diVine.video.
