The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) Islamabad launched a major crackdown against marble factories violating environmental laws and spreading pollution in the federal capital. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Islamabad Administration and local police.
Several marble factories located in Sector B-17 were raided for breaching environmental regulations. According to the Pak-EPA spokesperson, multiple factories were sealed during the operation for violating the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act of 1997.
The enforcement action was carried out under the supervision of Pak-EPA Islamabad Director Khalid Mehmood Chadhar and Deputy Director Muhammad Ramzan, in the presence of a local magistrate. The agency confirmed that the operation aimed to curb ongoing violations by marble units that had repeatedly ignored prior warnings and notices.
The spokesperson stated that dust and fine particles emitted from marble factories were significantly deteriorating the city’s air quality, posing health and environmental hazards to nearby communities. Despite multiple notices, several units continued to disregard environmental compliance requirements.
Pak-EPA emphasized that operations against industrial units polluting the environment in Islamabad and its surrounding areas would continue. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing environmental laws to protect public health and the urban ecosystem.
