Pakistan to Help Resettle Exiled Palestinians

The Israeli government is reportedly considering several countries — including Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, and Malaysia — for the future resettlement of Palestinian prisoners who were exiled to Egypt.

According to reports, the exiles were part of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. Under the agreement, Hamas released all 20 Israeli hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. However, Israel deported 154 of these Palestinians to Egypt, where they are currently being kept in a five-star hotel under strict security. Officials have barred them from leaving the premises without permission.

The report adds that Egypt initially accepted 150 of these prisoners in January, but even after eight months, their future remains uncertain.

All of the men in Cairo had been serving life sentences handed down by Israeli military courts on charges of murder or affiliation with resistance groups. However, the United Nations and human rights organizations have criticized these convictions as unfair and part of Israel’s system of occupation.

Despite their release, the former prisoners say they continue to live in a state of confinement and legal limbo. They have no right to work or move freely, and the Egyptian government has yet to clarify their legal status.

According to the Palestinian Authority, around 11,000 Palestinians remain in Israeli custody. Officials confirmed that discussions are underway with Qatar, Turkey, Malaysia, and Pakistan to find a permanent solution for the resettlement of the deported prisoners.

For now, all of the exiled detainees remain in Egypt, and Qatar is covering their living expenses.
