The Punjab Communication and Works Department has officially started groundwork for the construction of major infrastructure projects, including flyovers and underpasses at Kutchery Chowk and Jinnah Park, along with retaining walls at Fatima Jinnah Women University and Jinnah Park.

According to officials, the combined cost of the two flyovers and one underpass stands at Rs. 6.6 billion. The Jinnah Park underpass and flyover project will cost Rs. 5.2 billion, while the Iftikhar Janjua underpass is estimated at Rs. 2.7 billion.

Although construction will begin in the first week of November, pending clearance from the garrison authorities, the provincial highway department has already started work on building retaining walls to facilitate the construction of service roads and the relocation of utility services.

A senior Punjab Highways official said that four kanal and five marla of land will be used for the Iftikhar Janjua underpass, mostly from military property. Similarly, eight kanal and two marla have been allocated for Kutchery Chowk, and five kanal and 19 marla for Jinnah Park underpass.

Additionally, construction on three more underpasses — at Race Course Park, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road — is expected to start within the fiscal year 2025–26, making the route from Ammar Chowk to the motorway signal-free.

Executive Engineer Rana Qamar of the Punjab Highway Department said that work on retaining walls, service roads, and drainage systems at Jinnah Park and Fatima Jinnah Women University has already started, confirming that main road construction will begin next month.
