The Punjab government has launched a weekend double-decker bus service between Lahore and Sheikhupura to promote tourism and showcase the district’s historic sites, officials said.

Under the Punjab Tourism and Archaeology Department, the service will operate on Saturdays and Sundays. Officials set the fare at Rs. 1,200 per person for the round-trip excursions, which link travellers from the provincial capital to Sheikhupura’s cultural attractions.

On the inaugural run, visitors toured the shrine of the Punjabi poet Waris Shah and the nearby Hiran Minar. Tourists took part in boating and cycling at Hiran Minar, and authorities organised a traditional Heer recitation for guests as part of the day’s events.

Local residents and business owners welcomed the initiative, calling the two-day tours a historic step in reviving Sheikhupura’s heritage and expanding its appeal to visitors from Lahore and neighbouring districts. The double-decker service has already generated renewed interest among families and weekend travellers, organisers said.

Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth said the administration aims to develop Sheikhupura into a regional tourism hub. Additional Secretary Tourism Sadaf Zafar said the program seeks to stimulate the local economy and promote the district’s historic legacy through sustainable tourism.
