PMDC Announces Maximum Annual Tuition Fee for Medical and Dental Colleges

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has set Rs. 1.89 million as the maximum annual tuition fee for medical and dental colleges for the 2025–26 academic session — a 5% increase from last year’s limit of Rs. 1.8 million.

According to details, issued under the PMDC Act 2022, the Rs. 1.8 million cap set for 2024–25 will rise by 5% for 2025–26.

From 2026–27 onward, annual fee adjustments will align with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate.

The new structure was recommended by the Medical Education Committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The notification directs all private medical and dental colleges to display their approved fee structures at least three months before admissions begin, in compliance with Section 20(7) of the PMDC Act.

The PMDC has warned that any institution charging or displaying fees beyond the approved limit will face disciplinary action, including suspension of accreditation, student admissions, or other legal measures under Section 33 of the Act.

Background and earlier actions

The issue of high tuition fees has persisted since last year when parents raised concerns over steep increases.

The Senate Standing Committee on Health took notice of the matter after PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui raised repeated objections.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later formed a committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to review and reduce the fees.

Following the review, the PMDC officially capped annual fees at Rs. 1.8 million for the 2024–25 session — a limit that has now been raised by 5% for the coming academic year.
