Gamers are Older, Happier, and More Creative Than You Think: ESA 2025 Report
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has released its latest Power of Play 2025 report, offering a detailed look at global gaming habits and motivations. Based on responses from more than 24,000 players aged 16 and above, the findings challenge common stereotypes about gaming demographics.
According to the report, the average gamer is 41 years old, and the gender split is nearly equal between men and women. This data suggests that gaming has become a mainstream form of entertainment across age groups and genders.

The report also shows the mental and emotional benefits of gaming. About 81% of respondents said games provided mental stimulation, while 80% credited gaming for stress relief. Another 73% said games made them feel happier, and 64% said gaming helped them connect with others and feel less isolated.
While 66% of players said they primarily play for fun, many also noted personal development benefits. About 77% said gaming boosted creativity, 76% reported improved problem-solving skills, and 74% said it enhanced their cognitive ability and teamwork.
Mobile gaming continues to dominate globally, with 55% of respondents naming it their preferred platform. Nearly half of players under 35 play on mobile, while 61% of those over 50 also enjoy gaming on their phones, showing that mobile remains the most accessible and widely used platform for players worldwide.
