Bentley’s First Ever EV Seen on Roads for the First Time
Bentley’s first electric vehicle has been spotted testing on public roads ahead of its official debut set for mid-2026. First teased last fall, the model has been described as a “luxury urban SUV” and will reach customers in the first half of 2027.
The prototype features a squared front, flat hood, and wide rear fenders, giving it a muscular look distinct from Bentley’s current lineup. Unlike most electric models, which use flush door handles for aerodynamic purposes, the test car retains traditional handles. Positioned below the Bentayga SUV, it will have a smaller footprint but maintain Bentley’s signature proportions.

Technical details remain undisclosed, but the model is expected to share its platform with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV. If confirmed, it could include wireless charging capability through an inductive pad, similar to Porsche’s setup. The Cayenne EV uses an 800-volt system, a 108-kilowatt-hour battery, and supports charging speeds up to 400 kilowatts, offering insight into what Bentley’s EV might deliver.
According to Autocar, the sighting came shortly after CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser reaffirmed Bentley’s plan to launch a new plug-in hybrid or electric model every year through 2030. Walliser noted that while the company is mindful of slower demand for luxury EVs, it remains committed to its long-term electrification goals.
The electric SUV will sit below the Bentayga in Bentley’s lineup and mark a key step in the automaker’s transition toward a fully electric future.
